The gauge refers to the thickness of the wire.
Before telling you the jumper cable's gauge, you have to comprehend what it means to jump starter. Generally speaking, It seems that the thicker the gauge, the more powerful the cable is. However, that depends on what unit is in your hands. And it typically comes to two situations:
1) If you got a longer jumper cable, it tends to have a higher electrical resistance. And manufacturers have to increase the wire diameter to reduce the electrical resistance.
2) But for a portable jump starter, you only need to connect the clamps to a car battery and your booster. Thus, how long is the jumper cable doesn't really matter.
Our cable length is about one foot, and the electrical resistance is 1/20 of the jumper cables. Thus, We don't need to increase the wire diameter. Therefore, the HULKMAN jump starter comes with a lower Gauge but reaches all safety indicators in this industry.
